The vision was to create a multi-user complex by incorporating a five storey Mega Mall, an 18 storey hotel with more than 400 rooms, a twin tower office block, a convention centre and about 120 service apartments. Although at the moment Vision City Mega Mall is the only part which is fully complete and open to the public, it is thus far the largest Shopping Mall in the entire Pacific Region.
Vision City is located on a 9.2ha site fronted by Wangani Drive and Sir John Guise Stadium.
Vision City has created a new focal point for shopping and business activity, far beyond the standard ever experienced in PNG before. Our vision is to continue to create an area of excellence and quality, that you can expect in any of the international city in the modern world.
Vision City has a gross floor area of 45,000 square metres with one major or anchor tenant, being the RH Hypermarket, which currently occupies a massive 8,500 square metre site on the ground floor. There are also another 4 mini-majors tenants with each occupying more than 700 square metres each, including a 600 seat Chinese Restaurant, City Pharmacy, Star Office Works, and a 500 seat 3 cinemas complex on the top floor. There are four escalators, two travelators and four lifts to assist in the convenience of our shoppers.
With more than 70 shops covering 5 floors, the Mega Mall caters for a wide range of requirements and selections. For the convenience of the shoppers, Vision City provide more than 1300 car park spaces, with 350 in the underground car park below the shopping mall.
A mini amphitheatre with a stage has been set up outside the front entrance of the Mega Mall to cater for drama, musical performance and other promotional activities. To date, this has provide an excellent focal point for Digicel Star, Coke Cola promotional activities, and other major events and companies wanting to entertain the crowds. In addition to the amphitheatre, the Mega Mall also has a centralised entertainment court on the ground floor, with a mobile stage, and has provided entertain for numerous performance, such as Chinese Acrobats, Digicel puppet show, Digicel Star, Chinese New Year celebrations and a multitude of other activities.
Vision City is also setting the standards in PNG by being the first to install LED lights and other energy-saving lighting in and around the Mega Mall. One of these is the fantastic multi-coloured LED lighting that highlights the magnificent outline of the building at night.
One of the primary visions of the Mega Mall is to provide a safe and inviting environment for all our shoppers, which is why we have left to stone unturned, when it comes to looking after the security and safety of all our customers and tenants, which is why we employ more than 120 security guards and mall attendants to cover the entire area of the building and surrounding outside area. In addition to this we have also installed state-of-the-art CCTV, full metal detectors at all entrances and fully trained staff to search and screen all customers upon entry.
On the 17th June 2010, Vision City Mega Mall held our official Grand Opening, inviting dignitaries from all over the world, with state-of-the-art laser shows, largest fireworks display in PNG, international performers and traditional dancers, placing the Mega Mall on the international map.
Christmas 2010, followed Vision City tradition of braking records, but injecting a massive investment into celebrating Christmas with a great deal of flare and decorations, and again being the first shopping mall to have the largest outside Christmas Tree in the Pacific Region. Not only was the 14 metre outdoor Christmas Tree appreciated by our customers, but the Mall also had the largest indoor Christmas Tree, Santa Claus and an elaborate display of Christmas lighting and decorations. All part of further enhancing the traditional festive Christmas.
In February 2012, Paradise Cinemas opened the only cinemas in the Papua New Guinea. With more than 500 seats in a 3 multi-cinema complex, with a 120 seat Gold Class, this is further setting the standards by putting Port Moresby in the same league as the modern world.
